Have you been looking at a bathroom in your home and thinking it is about time it gets a complete overhaul? From the bath hardware to the bathroom accessories and even the little details like the tank levers on the toilet, you are just tired of the look of the room. Well why not do something about it? Let's dissect the room one area at a time and see what options you have to make changes that will be pleasing to the eye.
Lighting
First let's look at the lighting in your bathroom. Perhaps you can make it look a little better by just brightening up the space and lighting it differently. From sconce lighting that can add a warm glow to the room to vanity lighting and even positioning mirrors to reflect more light in the room there are plenty of options to brighten up this space and make it more cheerful.
Shower Accessories
Now let's take a look at the shower. The shower is one of the biggest parts of the bathroom so it makes sense that what you do with this space will really set the tone for the whole room. The biggest impact will come from your shower curtains, but don’t underestimate the ability of shower curtain rings, shower curtain hooks and shower rods in this space as well. They all add to the overall image of the curtain and can help set the scene for the room.
You also want to keep the space inside your shower organized. That means shower caddies and shower baskets where you can keep all of those soaps, shampoos and other items sorted and easy to access.
If you have a tub you may want to use bath caddies for this same reason.
Towel Central
There are a lot of places for towels in the bathroom and while you could just hide them under the counter for people to grab when they need them, why not show them off? For your larger towels have you considered hanging towel bars, or even double towel bars if you have a large bathroom? Perhaps towel hooks on the back of the door or the wall right beside the shower to keep them in reach, as people need to dry off. If you don't want to put a hole in the wall, you may want to consider towel stands by the shower that put those towels nearby.
Around the sink you also need a space for smaller hand towels. This is where towel racks and towel rings come in, making sure that everyone who washes their hands can easily dry them.
If you want a fun and luxurious addition to your bathroom, you may want to think about installing towel warmers that can give you that spa toasty warm feeling every time you dry off.
Sink Organization
One of the areas that are most commonly used in the bathroom is the sink. Whether people are just coming in to wash their hands after a meal, brushing their teeth first thing in the morning or prepping for a night out, they will spend a lot of time at the sink. So you should make sure they have all the things they need around the sink to be able to use this space effectively.
Soap dishes and soap dispensers are the most common things that people will use here along with items like paper towel holders. Whether they are washing their hands after using the bathroom or are just washing up after being out side or before a meal they are going to need soap and something to dry their hands.
The next things that are going to be needed around the sink are glass holders to give people somewhere to get a glass of water to rinse their mouth as they are brushing their teeth or using mouthwash.
When it comes to getting ready for a workday or getting ready for a night out there are a lot of things that you will need to have. From lotions to make up to hair products, these items all have to be on the countertop. One way to keep these things organized is with vanity trays that can keep them all in place on the counter by the sink.
Bathroom Hardware
When it comes to hardware in your bathroom a couple changes and additions here and there can make it look and feel like a whole different room. For example, if you change out the bathroom faucets to a new color of metal or style of faucets they can change the overall look and feel of the bathroom.
Putting robe hooks up behind the door is a nice addition as well, giving you a place to toss a nice fuzzy robe that you can put on after a good bath.
Another piece of hardware that a lot of people don't think about is toilet paper holders. These holders can be stands that hold the paper up at seated level or even be attached to the wall to dispense paper as needed.
When it comes to safety, you may want to consider grab bars in the tub and shower if you have an older person in your house or someone with limited mobility. These can help them get the little extra support they need getting in and out of the tub and shower.
A final thing you may not think of is wall flanges. These are those metal pieces that cover up where the pipes in your bathroom go into the wall. If you have boring flanges now, you may want to trade them out for something more attractive to complete the accenting of this space.
The Extras
There are some other pieces you may want to consider to make your bathroom seem a little more comfortable and accommodating. One of these is toilet brush holders. No one really likes to think about a toilet brush, but it needs to be around to keep that toilet clean. At the same time you may not want to see the brush so a holder may be ways to keep it close by but still mostly out of sight.
Bathroom shelves are another item that you may want to put in the bathroom. These can hold anything from towels to themed knick-knacks or even those hair devices that that woman in the family always uses.
You may not have thought of putting magazine racks in the bathroom, but let's face it, there is a lot of time that is going to be spent in this space, so why not?
There is a lot of little and large things you can do when remodeling a bathroom to really redefine the space and make it one that you are proud of.
